Mexican Gastronomy

It’s true that, when asked about traditional Mexican dishes, the taco is the first thing that comes to most people’s minds. But as much as much as we love that warm tortilla wrapped around a delicious filling of meat and vegetables, tacos don’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the edible masterpieces Mexico claims. Exploring its culinary wealth is an absolute must even for the recent arrival, but be sure to put aside all the cheap stereotypes created by places like Taco Bell.

With its strong flavors and tempting aromas, the enticing food of Mexico has an identity of its own. The mouth-watering dishes represent the culture and spirit of the Mexican people. Mexican food is known for its varied flavors, colorful presentation, and assortment of distinct spices and ingredients. These complex meals meant to tantalize every taste bud originate from Spanish, French and Indigenous roots.

Because Mexican cuisine has so much to offer, it might help to narrow it down a bit. One safe bet is the quintessential corporate Mexican restaurant, La Valentina, which has three locations, Polanco, Insurgentes Sur and Interlomas. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, the Patio Colonial del Hotel de Cortes, situated in the historic Hotel de Cortes in the heart of Mexico City, offers an informal setting for a meal in a 17th Century courtyard. And no visit to Mexico is complete without a trip to a cantina; La Opera, located in the historical center, is arguably the capital's best-known cantina complete with live music and great eats. One thing is for sure, no matter where you travel in Mexico you will be sure to find amazing food.
